We’re very excited about the year ahead at Glitter & Gloss HQ. We have some great new events and parties in store which we shall reveal over the next few months.

Due to all the great things that we’re involved with we shall be making a few small changes to the way we do parties to accommodate the extra work load.

For a short period only there will be a limited number of parties available each month. We’ve added an all inclusive package that gives you everything you need including a free place for your daughter, beautiful party bags and a personalised frame for your daughter.

By all means book the individual party package but you’ll find this one much cheaper.

If you book an after school party you are far more likely to find an available party slot.

If you have any concerns please get in touch and we will do our best to help!

I can remember when I was a teenager my Mum saying ‘My, how time flies!’ and I found it hilariously funny. How does time fly? Does it have wings? And what did she mean by that? It made no sense to me then but I really enjoyed making fun of her for saying such a weird thing.

As I have just packed my teenage son off to go camping and surfing with his friends in Cornwall that very saying is desperate to burst forth from my mouth! But I daren’t say it even though so often as parents we echo the sayings our parents spoke over us.

But where did the time go? Has it flown? Sometimes it certainly feels like it has!

If the years (getting old!) bring us wisdom and they certainly should if we’re learning the lessons life serves us, then I have learnt one thing. (only one I hear you ask?) That I am not fully present to each moment as it happens.

I can use the excuse of the busyness of my life disappearing the years and it would be nothing more than that – an excuse; It won’t change anything or let me relive the years with my children, but its’ certainly a factor. Being busy and focused on other things doesn’t help me to be truly present in my children’s lives. To appreciate each moment; to notice the growing and changing that is taking place in their lives. So when change does happen it can hit us like a bolt out of the blue. (another strange saying of my mother!) We do get the sense that the change happened overnight when we were all sleeping because we weren’t present to the slow change as it was happening.

I have rare moments of genius when I am present to all that’s happening in my children’s lives but sadly they are truly rare! I’m more self-focused and usually chasing my tail to live up to my high expectations of myself and the goals that I’ve set.

I love my children with a passion but would I give anything to do it all again? Oh yes! Don’t get me wrong I don’t live with regrets but would I just love to revisit smelling and cuddling my little baby one more time after a night time bath. Or sit in the tent with them that we made in the garden and laugh and play and eat picnics. Or go to their very first parents evening and come away feeling so proud. And snuggling them up into bed and reading them a story and watching them fall asleep.

Oh yes I’d love to do it all again and with more wisdom and appreciation but that’s not life’s way and we look ahead to great things to come with more appreciation.

So back to my original question – Does time fly?

I think it does but now I’m present to it!

I have often had the comment made to me that the work that Glitter & Gloss does in giving young girls makeovers is inappropriate in a day and age where childhood gets shorter & shorter and particularly girls are being sexualised by the media at a very young age.

I can understand the sentiment and in fact agree with it wholeheartedly! As a mother I cry ‘Bring back the innocence of our children and help them to appreciate who they are and those around them from within not just the superficial outside shell that changes all too quickly!

I guess with all the will in the world I’m not going to change the tide that rapidly turns our young children into mini adults but with out the wisdom and experience to handle the knowledge they seem to acquire. But I can work with what I’m presented.

At Glitter & Gloss we value each guest and treat them with dignity and give them a makeover that enhances their own natural beauty. With our teenage parties we teach them how to apply make up that doesn’t swamp their good looks and ruin their skin in the process. We teach them the discipline of looking after and respecting their body and give them the tools to start doing this.

We hope in some small way that this generation won’t all fall prey to the constant pressure of following the masses that look like baby dolls ready for a porn movie!

We love beauty and feel what we do is entirely appropriate and that’s the beauty of beauty!
